Local Scouts make donating non-perishable food to your local food banks easy!
Have you spotted a Scouting for Food door hanger on your door? Local scouts have invited you to give non-perishable food to your community’s local food bank.
Boy Scouts of the Greater Triangle and Fayetteville areas will be picking up food donations now through Dec. 15 for this year’s Scouting for Food campaign, which aims to reduce food scarcity and get food supplies to families in need.
“The need for our local citizens to donate non-perishable food is great,” says Charles Flowers, Occoneechee Council Scout Executive and CEO. “Local food banks have shared they are struggling to maintain reserves of food for local families right now, and we’re organizing Scouting for Food with the goal of helping our food banks replenish their reserves as we enter the holiday season.”
Here are foods that you can donate to Scouting for Food:
- Canned foods (vegetables, legumes, meats, etc.)
- Shelf-stable soups
- Peanut butter
- Cereal
- Pop Tarts or other breakfast tarts
- Pancake/muffin mix
- Crackers
- Cookies
- Rice
- Beans
- Pasta
- Powdered juice/milk
- Dried fruit
- Snack bars
How do you participate in Scouting for Food?
- Note the pick-up date on your door hanger.
- Gather foods from the list above.
- On the day of pick-up, leave your non-perishable food in bags outside of your front door in a spot they will most definitely see it.
(Be sure to hang your door hanger on that same day to help Scouts spot your donation.)
Your participation is greatly appreciated and felt across the state of North Carolina. Thanks to your support, local food pantries can restock and help families in need just in time for the holidays!
