Friends of Scouting is the annual fundraising effort of the Occoneechee Council to ensure the necessary funds for quality programming and membership growth. The plan is designed to give every family, leader, adult volunteer and alumni within the Council the opportunity to learn about Scouting,, our Council and the importance of Friends of Scouting. This year, there are many new features and resources available to help parents and leaders make an informed decision about Friends of Scouting. At the unit level we are conducting Investment in Character campaign as part of the overall Friends of Scouting effort of the council.
Here is how you can help…We are asking all Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews and Sea Scout Ships to support the Investment in Character Campaign in the following way:
- Appoint a Unit Investment in Character Captain
This person will serve as the point of contact for the Investment in Character Campaign (similar to the way the popcorn kernel does during the popcorn sale.)
- Set an Investment in Character Presentation Date
Generally conducted at the Cub Scout Pack Blue and Gold Banquets, Pinewood Derby meets, Committee Meeting or March Pack Meetings; Troop Parent’s Meetings, Committee Meetings, Court of Honors; or any Crew Special Function in conjunction with their ALPS programming.

- Camperships, uniforms, and Scout registration assistance for those in need.
- Training for leaders to ensure a quality year-round program.
- The Raleigh Scout Service Center to coordinate the Scouting program for more than 8,500 registered youth.
- Accident and liability insurance to protect both youth and adult members
- A Professional Staff that counsels, guides, and inspires volunteers.
- Scout properties available for year-round camping and Cub Scout family outdoor events.
- Regular programs and activities through the various districts
- Equipment to aid in training and promotional programs at no cost to the unit.
- An opportunity to influence the young people we serve…the future community leaders.
