The new Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) went live Friday, May 16. Scouters are encouraged to take the new 90-minute training now, but they will be required to take the training when their current Youth Protection Training expires.
The new SYT training is good for one year. To renew, you’ll need to review a 10-15 minute video and take the refresher test. If you pass with an 80 percent or above, you’ve recertified. If not, then you will take the entire SYT module.
There are two other training courses coming. There will be a Youth-on-Youth training course and a separate course for Scout parents (6-10 minutes).
From National: Safeguarding youth is a value at the core of the Scouting movement. It is vital to maintain a culture of active supervision, awareness, and safety at all levels of Scouting. Safeguarding Youth training will help you prevent harm to youth, is required for all Scouting America registered volunteers and is a joining requirement.
